- Alcohol
All through childhood
He ran from pain
As he got older
He was sure he’s insane
Survived all the beatings
And loveless days
Looked at the future
In a tear clouded haze
Why was this
His chosen lot
Was he the one
God had forgot
Told by his father
He was lazy and no good
Put aside by his mother
All alone, he stood
As he got older
Still a boy in that day
Drugs and alcohol
Asked him to come play
Left out of love
Yearned to fit in
No one to trust
A spiral begins
Then up against the wall
And nowhere to go
Waiting to die
But it was so slow
He yelled out for help
God end this pain
Please stop all this chaos
Inside of my brain
He took a chance believing
That God was still there
Could and would save him
From all his despair
Learn to surrender
Stop running from the past
If you can do what I ask
I’ll give you peace that will last
The boy learned to give up
Stopped running from the fear
Embraced his higher power
And those he held dear
When he surrendered
Then it came to be
He was free from those chains
That bound you and me
That is the story
The little boy who ran
Now free from that anger
I am an old man
