- Drugs
My 19 year-old daughter is my hero. I found out when she was 19 that she had been doing drugs since she was 14 years old. At 19, she became addicted to heroin and hit her bottom and asked for help. During the previous five years, I’d had no idea she was on drugs. She was a good student in school, played sports in school and held a part-time job. We had a very rocky relationship and she never really seemed to want to be close to me. After high school, she went on to start school to be a nurse and was working in a nursing home. She got her own apartment and was continuing school. Still, she never really let me close to her. She then quit school and her job, pawned everything she had and lost her apartment.
This is when she came to me for help. After she asked me for help and went to treatment, we have become so close, and I am her biggest supporter and fan. She is now living in a sober house and continuing outpatient treatment. She has been sober over 100 days now and wants to continue with her schooling. She is my hero and best friend and our relationship now is what I have always wanted.
